Building Team Good News!
EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING!!!!!

Have you seen the big yellow bulldozer at SOTP? The Village of Huntley has given us their approval, the Gift in Kind Donors are driving their bulldozers and trucks, and

THE BERM IS MOVING!!!

The Berm, located just east of our current building, is being leveled and dirt and clay is being moved to a remote location.

Your Building Team is also working on the following:

  • Our New Civil Engineers, Knoche & Associates, Geneva, IL have been hired to provide Construction layout, Storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), Detention calculation, Village Review, and Permits.
  • RFQs have been sent to Acoustic Consultants, Audio Visual Consultants, and Landscape companies as well.

But did we mention….THE BERM IS MOVING!!!!! We have officially begun the construction process! Yes, we have had faith, but Finally this is something we, along with our neighbors can see!

Yes, Excitement is….BUILDING! And God’s people say….AMEN!

Berm & Parking Lot Update:
Both of our Gift in Kind donors are on board for leveling the Berm now, Parking Lot later.

Civil Engineering:
Mika has sent out 3 RFQs to Wendler and two others. Mika has begun hearing back from the companies. More to follow at Meeting #3.

Action on Running Lists:
The same two needs as before. Bold italics state when addressed:

1) Issues with our Current Building: Doors that close too loud, furnace blower too loud, light switches not at each doorway; etc. Mika was informed of this concern at meeting #2.

2) Changes needed to conceptual/detailed Design: Little Lambs need doorway to playground, as well as door to bathroom; Altar Guild room needs running water, fridge, storage; etc. Mika informed of these needs on 8/9/16.

Ministries Videos - brought to you by the Building Team:
Bob & Jodi will give us an update during our Building Team post meeting. Bob & Deb will attend Ministry Night, July 11th to answer questions from the Ministry Leaders. Video shooting will be July 26th, 3:00pm – 7:00pm by Mike Yndestad.

Parking Lot Update:
This is a fluid topic at best. It took 4 weeks for the Village of Huntley to return information regarding the Parking Lot. The plans then go to the Wendler Engineering in Dixon, IL for changes. Will they allow us to utilize the original drawings now that changes are being made? Bill will bring summary of costs, and needs to review with Village if Lights need to be operational, as well as Landscape plan.

Acoustics, Sound & Video Planning:
Don has been hard at work coordinating with Mika and sending out RFPs. More to follow at Meeting #2.

Church Sub Committees:
Two main committees need action: 1) Material & Color; 2) Technology (A/V, security, sound system) Greg Dowell should of course be on this second committee, but per Mika, one member of the Building Team needs to be on each of these committees. Volunteers? More than one BT member is fine, but the committee size is to be 3 – 4 including the BT member.

Running Lists:
Two lists that are important, and ideas needed on these.

Attending: Paul Barribeau, Mika Frank, Bob Malm, Don Schneider, Mark Frendreis, Pastor Mark, Deb Hansen ( Bill Wilson will be on vacation. Both Bill & Paul said to go ahead with the meeting without Bill. Paul will connect with Bill as needed) (Jodi, Cliff & Larry vacation)

Paul is anxious to get started, as are we, so the date has been confirmed.

Ministries Videos - brought to you by the Building Team (see attachment):
Jodi, Bob & I had a mini-meeting last night. It was decided at that meeting that short videos, 2-3 minutes each will be produced to highlight the Ministries here at SOTP (see list attached). These are Ministries that will be directly impacted by the new Mission Footprint from our construction. Pastor is excited about this proposal, and even suggested that the short videos could possibly be used at the conclusion of his message during the services, perhaps 1 or 2 videos a Sunday. This is consistent with our Building Team goal to include as many members of our congregation as possible to be part of this Mission Footprint expansion. The videos will then be placed on the SOTP website for repeated viewing. We have asked Donna Kelly for assistance on this project. Jodi has asked Mike Yndestad if he could help by shooting the videos for this production. We will keep the Building Team informed with updates. Thank you Bob for this inspiring suggestion! Great to have you back!!!!!

Building Team Table:
We will NOT be putting a computer/TV screen on the Building Team table. We just found out that the Welcome Center is installing a TV screen with scrolling information to assist members and future new members regarding ministries, membership, and so on. We certainly don't want to have our Narthex become too media crowded, so there will be no video shown on or above the Building Team Table. Jodi has suggested that pictures be displayed & rotated throughout the building process to stimulate interest. Perhaps an aerial shot could be blown up and displayed showing construction progress. Cliff, thank you for all of your efforts on this project!

Aerial Shots:
Carolyn and Ed Cuttle have graciously volunteered to take pictures of construction progress from Ed's plane as he circles the sky over SOTP. How exciting this will be to see these changes! There are 20 some shots on the SOTP website now. (See the next item for clarification)

Information posting:
Dennis, Jodi & I are devising a more effective system for reporting progress during construction.

Parking Lot Update:
Waiting for update from Bill Wilson. Soil Borings taken & looked good. No formal report yet.

God is good all the time! What a night!!

The evening began with our Shepherd of the Prairie Voices praising God and singing:

"Walking in Faith with Our Lord"
(our Forward in Faith Hymn)

The members of SOTP congregation approved to proceed with a 157 space addition to the Parking Lot, which will begin in the next few weeks.

Then the members of SOTP approved the preparation of the detailed design by our architectural firm, Groth Design Group, including specifications and bid documents for the expansion of our Mission Center, which will include the new sanctuary. This work will take 5-6 months and conclude with the bidding process in December.

April 19

Calling all Shepherd of the Prairie Members—Mark your calendars for the next Congregational Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th at 7:00 p.m.

We will be meeting to approve the following:
  • Expanding the Parking Lot, giving SOTP an additional 157 new parking spaces
  • Approve our Architect, Groth Design Group, to move forward in finalizing the building designs

March 22

The Building Team met March 22 to discuss the on going building processes and discuss the Reveal.

We want the congregation to know that the Building Team is here for you to answer any questions relating to the building process. Please remember to use the Suggestion Box ( online or in the Crossroads by front door) if you have any questions.

The Good News is that we have a wonderful Master Plan. More Good News is that we have received preliminary approval for a $3.5M loan. The Great News is that we have the funds to begin now to plan and construct a beautful new Sanctuary and Gathering Space.

A question that came up several times after the Reveal was....

Question: Where is the new kitchen??

Answer: With the changed direction from building multi purpose space to a sanctuary, priorities for what kind of new space is needed has changed. If we had continued to plan new multi purpose space, it would make sense to plan new kitchen space close to where meals would be served - in the new multi-purpose space. With the change to build a sanctuary and the increased expense for this type of space, it was decided any kitchen space changes would be part of some sort of remodel--not new construction. At this point we may not even finish the interior of the office, music and classroom space. For that reason, any kitchen changes have been set aside to be addressed later.

It's with much excitement that the Building Team invites you to the March 9th, 2016, Lenten Midweek Service and Reveal. Our architect, Paul Barribeau, along with our construction manager, Bill Wilson, will be joining us to Reveal the latest NEW church designs, including elevation, during the evening's service!

The service will start at 7:00 p.m. If your schedule allows, please plan to join us for the Soup Supper at 6:00 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. We would also like to take a moment to thank everyone who has participated in our "Forward in Faith" campaign. To date, $1.56 million has been received in 3 year commitments!!

We are very excited about the new plans Paul and his team have created, based on all of the feedback he heard from our congregation! We hope that you will be able to join us on March 9th as we continue to move "Forward in Faith"!

December 8

We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has participated in our "Forward in Faith" campaign. To date, $1,550,163.49 has been received in 3 year commitments!!

We are very excited about the new plans Paul and his team have created based on all the feedback he has heard from our congregation! We hope that you will be able to join us soon for an exciting "REVEAL" meeting as we continue to move "Forward in Faith"!

November 10

The Building Team met with our SOTP architect, Paul Barribeau from GDG today

We looked at various floor plans, discussing options, costs, etc., and addressed the thoughts and questions that were sent in to our Suggestion Box. We are expecting to have a detailed floor plan to show the congregation early in 2016. Such an exciting time as we move Forward in Faith!

October 25

The congregation voted to approve to change the vision of the building expansion at Shepherd of the Prairie from a Multi-Purpose room focus to a Sanctuary.

The Building Team will be meeting with the Architect on November 10th. Stay tuned for further updates from the Building Team as we move Forward in Faith!

October 6

Our architect, Paul Barribeau from GDG, met with the congregation to discuss the results of our interviews and visioning workshop.

Paul walked us through a very tentative floor plan as well as answered many questions the congregation had on the new Phase 2 direction--building a sanctuary versus an all purpose room.

If you were unable to attend this meeting you can find the video and floor plan on the Church's website. Please be sure to attend the Congregational Meeting on October 25 after the 10:45 a.m. service to vote on the new direction of the Phase 2 Expansion.

Please pray for us as we continue to move "Forward in Faith."

August 27

Our Phase Two architect, Paul Barribeau from the Groth Design Group, met with over 30 key Ministry Team Leaders, SOTP staff, and Building Team members today at SOTP.

Paul held the meetings from 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. and also walked throughout our church building taking appropriate pictures. The enthusiasm, dreams and ideas from our Ministry Team Leaders and SOTP staff were both compelling and promising. See the list of Team Leaders who provided guidance and input for Paul's design here .

August 18

July 30

After two months of meetings, emails, and research, the Building Team has selected an architect for the next building phase.It is with much excitement that we announce Groth Design Group as the architect that will guide the expansion of Shepherd of the Prairie's mission footprint!

We believe the Groth Design Group has the vision, creative collaboration, and pastoral experience needed for this important building phase.

A unique approach that GDG brings is a Visioning Workshop, which we have scheduled for Tuesday, August 18th. This is the time for all members to participate in the planning stage of our expansion.

Please plan to attend this key, exciting kick-off to our ministry expansion adventure!

June 23

It's an exciting time at SOTP! The Building Team is busy interviewing architects! We are considering Groth Design Group, Carlson Architecture and Allen Pepa Architects. We have completed three of five scheduled interview sessions with the architects.

Please pray for the Building Team as we continue to meet during this important phase.

May 26

Our first meeting date was Tuesday, May 26. We are scheduled to meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m.
